Aura & Ambient FX - Godot 4 Shader Pack
A downloadable asset pack
Six rich, animated effects for atmosphere and buffs in Godot 4: fire, smoke, a hot ember zone, a shield, a heal aura and god rays. Each is a ready-made scene you drag in, resize and tune in the Inspector, backed by clean, commented shaders (plus particles for the ember zone). No code to write, no external assets, tiny download.
The effects
- Fire - a rising flame with a rounded base and a hot core cooling to the edge. The outline licks and flickers while the body stays solid, so it never punches a hole through itself. Torches, campfires, burning wreckage.
- Smoke - a billowing, irregular plume that climbs, meanders and tears apart into wisps like real smoke, shaped from a thin trail to a wide cloud.
- Ember zone - a hot ember-zone scene: a flaring, dying coal bed and a warm red haze from a shader, plus two particle layers of sparks that rise, cool and burn out into fine drifting dust. Soft edges let you drop it anywhere with no hard border.
- Shield - a hex energy bubble with a bright fresnel rim and a scan sweep. The middle stays clear so your character reads right through it. Fully tunable.
- Heal aura - a centered radial aura with a pulsing rim and rising four-point-star sparkles, for heals and buffs.
- God rays - still volumetric light shafts with a slow brightness shimmer and fine floating dust (not a distracting slide). A
fancontrol turns them into a cone from an opening; the edges fade so it melts into the scene. For windows, forest gaps and broken ceilings.
The demo project includes a runnable example scene putting the effects together in context: a ruined temple where daylight breaks through the broken ceiling as a shaft of god rays onto a mage being healed, a stone brazier burns fire, embers and smoke, and another mage raises a shield. Every effect has a reason to be there.
Quick start (drag and drop)
Copy the shaders/ and scenes/ folders into your project. Every effect is a ready-made scene in scenes/: instance the one you want (fire.tscn, smoke.tscn, shield.tscn, heal_aura.tscn, god_rays.tscn, ember_zone.tscn), move it, drag the handles to resize, and tune the values in the Inspector. No code, no material to wire up. The round effects (shield, heal) and the god rays stay correct at any box size on their own, so there is nothing to configure. Every effect animates by itself; tween a parameter (like heal aura's intensity) to fade a buff in and out.
Compatibility
Godot 4.x, tested on 4.7. Works in Forward+, Mobile and Compatibility renderers. Tiny download, no dependencies.
